Being a huge fan of LRP, I was super excited at the launch of their new Anthelios Ultra Fluid facial SPF. This new formula is from their Canadian site (sorry U.S. folks). The old Anthelios was an SPF 60, with 3% avobenzone, 2% mexoryl SX, 10% homosalate, 5% octisalate, 5% octocrylene and 6% oxybenzone. The new formula got a serious upgrade; it’s SPF 50, with 7% mexoryl XL, 5% tinosorb S, 5% octisalate, 5% octocrylene, 3% avobenzone, 2% homosalate and 0.5% ensulizole. Thoughts on this formula - it looks like this offers crazy good UVA/UVB protection. I believe it’s only one of 2 Canadian sunscreens that have both mexoryl and tinosorb filters. Also, super happy they took out the oxybenzone. The rest of the ingredients give it a super lightweight feel. There is a high amount of denatured alcohol, which I am personally fine with. First thoughts - ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! Reading through comments on LRP’s instagram page, they say this is very similar to Shaka fluid/offers the same UVA protection. If this is true, this would give it a PPD of 46 - definitely the highest I’ve seen in Canada. I actually used the Shaka fluid last summer. Initially, I did not like it, but ended up really enjoying it after layering it on top of a light moisturizer. I never re-ordered the Shaka Fluid because it was costly/tedious to get it to Canada. The new Anthelios SPF 50 is $29 CDN for 50ml. As someone who is South Asian, with a light-medium brown skin tone, there was ZERO cast. Also, ZERO pilling - super important since I do have quite a bit of facial hair. I also applied the SPF on top of a lightweight moisturizer and no issues there. I gently applied this around my eyes and didn’t notice any stinging/irritation. I don’t find the alcohol overly bothersome, mainly because I am putting a moisturizer on underneath. I’ve also used it while working out; it was quite nice out in Toronto today, so I slathered on the Anthelios before my daily quarantine jog. Got pretty warm/sweaty, but not issues of the SPF slipping off and leaving those awkward white streaks. This is still a very early first impression; I’ve been using the SPF for just under a week. Haven’t noticed any irritation or break outs, but will definitely keep an eye out. So far though, I have to say I am super impressed with this formula. So happy that Canada is finally getting some Europe-esque sunscreens, with high protection and efficacious formulas!
