I absolutely love The Body Shop Mango Body Butter! The scent is heavenly — sweet, tropical, and uplifting without being too strong. It instantly reminds me of summer. The texture is rich and creamy, but it melts beautifully into the skin, leaving it soft, smooth, and deeply hydrated.
It’s perfect for dry skin or when you just want that extra glow. I especially love how long the moisture lasts — my skin still feels soft even the next day. The mango fragrance lingers lightly, making me feel fresh and pampered all day.
Overall, it’s one of those products that feels like a little luxury in your daily routine. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who loves fruity scents and long-lasting hydration.

What the product is & how I used it
This body butter is a deeply moisturising body cream from The Body Shop with a rich, butter-like texture. According to the brand, it’s made with 96% ingredients of natural origin, including mango seed oil (from India), shea butter (Ghana) and Brazil nut oil (Peru). I kept a 200 ml tub in my bathroom and used it after showering in the evenings—when my skin had been exposed to sun or wind or felt slightly dry. I’d pat my skin dry, then scoop a moderate amount and apply it on my arms, legs, especially on knees/elbows and my torso.
What I noticed it does for my skin
Hydration & texture: After application, my skin felt noticeably smoother and more comfortable rather than tight or dry. In the mornings I could still feel the “comfort layer” on the skin, especially on areas prone to dryness (outer thighs, lower legs).
Finish & feel: Although thick, it didn’t feel overly greasy on my skin. Because I have a combination skin type (oily T-zone, drier limbs), I did observe that on my limbs the skin felt soft without shine—but on my torso or arms if I used a heavier amount, there was a faint film. So usage quantity mattered.
Scent & experience: It smells strongly of ripe mango—sweet, juicy, tropical. I liked how it made my bathroom feel like a mini spa moment. The scent lingered for a few hours, which added to the enjoyment.
Key active ingredients & what they do
Mango seed oil (Mangifera Indica Seed Oil): Provides emollient nourishment, helps smooth the skin and lock in moisture.
Shea butter (Butyrospermum Parkii Butter): A classic rich butter for body care; supports barrier repair and deep moisturisation.
Brazil nut oil (Bertholletia Excelsa Seed Oil): Adds additional nourishing oils / natural origin lipids.
Glycerin and sunflower seed oil, etc: These support hydration and a smoother feel.
Because of this formulation, it’s clearly designed to deliver longer-lasting hydration (the brand claims up to 96 hours for dry skin).
Pros (things I liked)
Very comfortable on dry or drier patches—my elbows and knees felt much smoother with fewer rough bits.
Nice sensory experience—the mango scent and the texture made applying it feel like a treat rather than a chore.
Reasonably non-greasy for a body butter—for me, the balance was good: rich yet manageable.
Ethical credentials & natural-style ingredients—I liked knowing there was a fair-trade component and a high natural-origin score.
Cons (things I found less ideal)
Finish on some areas could feel a bit heavy, especially if I used too much or applied just before getting dressed—the fabric would sometimes pick up a little residue.
Scent might be strong for some—the mango aroma is prominent, which is great if you like fruity scents, but if you prefer more subtle fragrance or are sensitive, it could be a drawback.
Not specifically formulated for oily skin—while it worked overall, because it’s a butter I sometimes felt it was “one step heavier” than what my oily-zones needed. On those zones (my arms, torso) I had to use a smaller amount or apply later when I wasn’t wearing gym gear, etc.
Price point: For the amount and the results, it’s decent, but if your skin is already well-hydrated or you only have minimal dryness, the “luxury butter” may feel more than you strictly need.
Suitability for oily/combination skin (my take)
On drier parts of combination skin (legs/arms): It performed very well—comfort, smoothness and longer-lasting feel.
On oil-prone parts (torso, maybe arms if sweaty): I found I needed to moderate usage. Using a smaller amount and making sure I applied it after the skin is mostly dry helped. On hotter days, I sometimes switched to a lighter lotion or gel for my torso, and used this butter mainly on the drier zones.
Finish and layering: If I applied it in the evening, my skin was fine overnight. But if I applied it in the morning and then put on light clothing in a warm environment, I could feel a slight “film” which might, on very oily skin, potentially contribute to perceived shine. So I’d say: yes you can use it, but apply it strategically (drier zones) and adjust amount for oilier zones.
Scent-wise: Because oilier skin can sometimes amplify fragrance or heat, the strong mango scent might become more noticeable—so if you’re sensitive or in close working environments, keep that in mind.
My verdict
If I were summarising: I’d say the Mango Body Butter from The Body Shop is a strong yes for anyone with drier or mixed skin who wants a beautifully scented, comfortable body moisturiser. For someone whose skin is predominantly oily, it may still work—but you’ll want to use it more selectively (just on drier zones or at night) and maybe pair it with lighter textures elsewhere.
If I were giving it a personal score (for me with combination-skin): I’d give it 8/10. It delivers high comfort, lovely scent and good hydration—but it’s not perfect for oily-zone precision.

For YEARS I have loved the Body Shop's Mango and Clementine body butters. The smell and textures were always divine, but I find that the price does not match up with the quality of these anymore. There are many other brands that beat the Body Shop when it comes to fragrance and textures AND pricing especially.
I don't see the value in buying this body butter anymore and can't justify the price. The product is good, but I would not invest in this over other cheaper alternatives.
Even if the body shop is vegan and that's something you want to support, there are many other cheaper alternatives.
